Gamble by the Sea: Biloxi, the US South Coast Casino Town

Table of Contents

Any casino fan worth their salt dreams of playing the tables at iconic venues in Monte Carlo and Las Vegas.

However, as casino play becomes deregulated in various jurisdictions you can now enjoy the gambling trip of a lifetime in an increasing range of exclusive resorts.

So, if you want to enjoy the exhilaration of the finest online casinos in a sun-kissed hotspot, why not take a trip to the vibrant Mississippi town of Biloxi.

Biloxi is the US South Coast Casino Town that regularly enjoys 90-degree scorchers. Situated on the Gulf of Mexico, Biloxi provides a stunning sea-scape backdrop to all the Baccarat, Roulette, Blackjack, and Poker play that you wish to partake in.

Once you have had your fill in the casino lounge there is plenty to enjoy.

Beaches in Biloxi are some of the finest in the U.S. The sugar-white sandy stretches need to be seen to be believed. While several resorts offer gorgeous gastronomy that showcases local sea catches and enchanting entertainment from some of the world’s most popular artists.

If you’re a history buff, Biloxi delivers. Founded in 1699, Biloxi is one of the oldest settlements in North America and is a fascinating cultural melting-pot, with French and Spanish influence holding sway over the region for much of the past three centuries.

If that’s not enough, Biloxi is home to several championship-standard 18-hole golf courses and a clutch of fascinating museums. In fact, there is so much to do in Biloxi that one trip may not be enough.

Review each casino with a table of facts at the top, including:

Biloxi houses eight casino resorts where 24-hour gambling, award-winning entertainment and great restaurants are the order of the day.

Since 1990 when gambling was legalised in Mississippi, these venues have provided the backbone of the local economy. Perhaps Biloxi’s most famous resort is the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, but gambling fans may also be aware of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Grand Casino, Boomtown Casino, and the Golden Nugget Casino and Resort

But, if you are considering a meander around the State of Mississippi, which casinos should you be betting on to provide you with a great time that meets your budget?

Beau Rivage Resort & Casino

The Beau Rivage est la crème de la crème. Featuring around the clock servicing, you can bask in the glory of over 2000 cutting-edge slots cabinets and nearly 100 table games when you set foot in the 85000 square feet of the complex that is dedicated to gaming pursuits.

If sports betting floats your boat, the Sports Book Bar at Beau Rivage is highly recommended. Bets can be placed on a vast array of sports, with opening hours of 8 am to 1 am at weekends being accommodating to sports buffs of every colour.

With its views of the Gulf of Mexico, the palatial pool at Beau Rivage provides the perfect place to relax when you tire of the tables. Cabanas provide a home from home, with your every desire catered for via the superior concierge service that operates 24/7.

Another string to the sizable Beau Rivage is the entertainment schedule. The resort is considered as the glitziest hotspot along the Gulf Coast, with many shows being available to patrons on a fee-free basis.

But no great resort is worthy of the name if food options are not stunning and in plentiful supply. Beau Rivage meets this need through the ten on site restaurants that offer a global exploration of taste sensations.

If you want to make sure that you’re on-trend then a trip to the shopping promenade at Beau Rivage is essential. Designer clothes, perfumes, and jewellery can be picked up at eye-catching rates.

Beauvoir

Beauvoir is appropriately named. Meaning “beautiful to view” Beauvoir is the stunning site on the Gulf Coast that used to be the home of Confederate leader Jefferson Davis. Located within the municipal area of Biloxi, Beauvoir is well worth a visit from anyone who is vacating in the vicinity.

Beauvoir has an illustrious history. When the property was first occupied in the mid 19th Century, the estate covered over 600 acres. Although only 52 acres of the original site remains intact, this swathe of land still incorporates fascinating features including the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Museum and the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier.

Biloxi Lighthouse

Another historic site in Biloxi that is also worth a visit is the Biloxi Lighthouse.

Built in 1848, Biloxi Lighthouse is an iconic symbol of the resilience shown by people in the district following natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.

Commissioned by Jefferson Davis, Biloxi Lighthouse was an imperative resource for boosting sea trade throughout the Gulf area. Built for a total cost of $7000, the Lighthouse was in daily operation for 120 years.

Since 1968, tours of the Lighthouse have been a big draw and even though frequent storms have battered the original structure, its design has stood the test of time.

MGM Park

No visit to Biloxi is complete without taking in a Biloxi Shuckers ball game at MGM Park.

Built in 2014, MGM Park has all of the modern touches that you would expect to see at leading sporting venues, with unrestricted views and comfortable seating making MGM Park a hit with all age groups.

Although initially based in Nashville,.and more recently in Huntsville, the Triple-A franchise began life in Biloxi in the 2015 season. With home crowds of over 6000 being enjoyed against local rivals, the big game atmosphere and live entertainment that are the hallmark of Shuckers fixtures means a night at the MGM will remain etched on your memory for years to come.

When is the best time to visit Biloxi from a weather/busyness perspective?

When’s best to visit Biloxi is a bit of a subjective matter.

If you want to experience ninety-degree days with wall to wall sunshine, a visit at any point between May and September will be ideal. However, outside of this window, you will find the resort a little easier to navigate. Obviously, one fly in the ointment is hurricane season. The risk from severe storms in the Gulf of Mexico tends to rise throughout August, with devastating hurricanes being possible all the way through to November.

What are the beaches like?

Biloxi is well known for many things. Of course casinos, golf courses, and Confederate history are three items that quickly spring to mind. But, the beaches of Biloxi are also some of the finest examples of anywhere on the continent.

The brilliant white sand of the Mississippi Sound has largely been re-interred since the environmental damage suffered in the area as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

The sea around Biloxi is also ideal for swimming. Gulf Islands act as a natural wave-break, meaning that Biloxi beaches are bathed with calm waters outside of storm season.

With tropical temperatures enjoyed in the town throughout the summer months, Biloxi stands up well against more sought after locations such as Acapulco and Cancun as a sunshine destination of choice.

Top restaurants in Biloxi.

Let’s get one thing straight, Biloxi is a popular holiday destination smack bang beside the Gulf of Mexico. This prime location means that a staple of all the town’s top restaurants is seafood and plenty of it.

But, when you have access to one of the world’s best-stocked larders it would be remiss not to take advantage of the situation.

Half Shell Oyster House

Half Shell Oyster House, Biloxi, is one of a chain of restaurants that delivers succulent seafood to the masses across the whole of Mississippi. As the brand name suggests, the main menu is heavily skewed towards different methods of cooking this highly-prized mollusc, but what really sets Half Shell Oyster House from many of its peers is the level of customer service delivered at all times. Reviewers on TripAdvisor and Google consistently report Half Shell Oyster House as being one of their preferred eateries in the whole of Biloxi.

Shaggy’s

Shaggy’s also place seafood at the heart of its menu, often served with a Caribbean twist. Snapper and shrimp find their way into many of Shaggy’s most sought after recipes, with these often accompanied by Coconut, Mango, or Lime.

For those who like something a little different, Mexican-inspired delicacies have also made the cut. Although for the adventurous a quesadilla washed down by Pina Colada may well be the order of the day.

Sitting in a beachside location at 1763 Beach Boulevard, Biloxi MS 39531, whatever you choose to eat at Shaggy’s comes accompanied with lashings of a party atmosphere.

BR Prime Steakhouse

For discerning customers, BR Prime Steakhouse could well be the place where all of your desires are fulfilled, even those who wish to cut a 40 Oz Tomahawk Steak down to size.

However, seafood fans needn’t worry, there is still a chance to try some of the finest local catch.

Scallops, Shrimp, Crab, and Oyster dishes all make their way on to BR’s menu in some form or another.

However, bear in mind that a trip to this establishment will require deep pockets, so if you are looking to extend the life of your bankroll, alternatives may prove more enticing.

How much does it cost to see the Biloxi Shuckers and what can you expect?

In an increasingly expensive world, it is refreshing to report that you can enjoy a night out watching Biloxi’s famed minor league baseball franchise for less than the buy-in on many of the town’s poker tables.

Indeed, tickets are priced from just $12. This price gives you entry to MGM Park for one of Biloxi Shuckers’ home matches and also allows you to experience bespoke entertainment that accompanies nearly all ties. Friday night games that coincide with stunning fireworks displays are highly recommended.

Regular food and drink offers mean that you can experience a complete night out for well under $30. A godsend in a town where dwell-time can often lead to your cash reserves becoming depleted quickly.

Biloxi Shopping Malls – what are they like and what’s the best

Shopping opportunities are available all of the way down the gulf coast that runs through Biloxi. Two of the best are Edgewater Mall and The Shoppes at Popps Ferry Shopping Centre. These centres are great for picking up holiday gifts or regaling yourself with brand name fashions. Like everything else in Biloxi though, ensure that you have a suitably stacked credit before you cross the threshold, as a sense of dizziness can quickly overcome you in these upmarket locations.

How safe is Biloxi?

Unfortunately, Biloxi has a bit of a reputation for attracting crime when its figures are held up against comparably sized urban centres. However, due to the economy of Biloxi being based on the delivery of nighttime services, this is not surprising.

Analysts suggest that 91% of cities are safer than Biloxi, but the opportunity for street crimes to be carried out in Biloxi is high as a greater volume of citizens regularly walk the sun-kissed boulevards throughout the Summer months.

What’s the easiest way to travel to Biloxi? In this instance assume you are flying from New Zealand.

Travelling to Biloxi from New Zealand involves traversing across the Pacific and landing at one of the U.S.’s major flight hubs. Usually, this means that you will change at Los Angeles to catch a connecting flight to a Southern airport. Biloxi is served by Gulfport, which can be accessed from multiple locations across North America.
