Premier League Set to Agree Gambling Shirt Ban
Bosses at the UK’s Premier League are looking likely to put an end to betting advertising on the front of football shirts.
Pressure has been mounting on the Premier League in recent months to end the relationship between football clubs and gambling advertisements.
A group of cross-party MPs criticised an earlier government decision to allow football clubs to agree their own sponsorship terms.
Although banning advertising gambling on the front of shirts is looking ever increasingly likely to take place, it’s not thought there will be a complete ban, with betting brands still being allowed to be visible on other parts of shirts and within the club grounds.
Equally, it’s not believed that the imminent new Gambling Legislation in the UK will reference any specific mention of advertising on club shirts.
Campaigners want an end to the promotion of betting in football grounds arguing that it “normalises” gambling.
