Football Club Faces Backlash after Gambling Email

A football club in the UK has been criticised after sending a gambling email to one of their fans who is a recovering gambling addict.

Norwich City, who play in the EFL Championship League, sent the email to fans which contained a signup bonus for people joining Spreadex Sports.

James Grimes of The Big Step campaign group, who is calling for an end to all gambling advertising and sponsorship in football, said that sending an email like this to someone recovering from a gambling addiction was inexcusable.

He said: “So you’re sending encouragement to gamble to people whose lives have been destroyed by gambling. That’sThat’s not what a football club, a good, family, community football club, like Norwich is, should be doing.”

It’sIt’s not the first time the club has faced a backlash from gambling-related advertising. In 2021 they faced criticism for their sponsored shirt deal with BK8.
