
$1BILLION in 1 Month’s Betting
Residents in Ohio, USA wagered a whopping $1.1 Billion in the first month of legalised sports gambling in the state.
Earlier this week, the Casino Control Commission released its first in-depth report since it became legal to bet on sports in January.
The state’s 16 sports betting apps accounted for £1.09 Billion of the total spent, landing the state a tax windfall of $21 million.
The most used app was by FanDuel, which took a huge $494 million while DraftKings was second with $344 million in bets.
To put the money wagered into perspective, New York – the leading state for sports gambling – took $1.37 Billion over a similar period of time in 2022.
In the US, gambling regulations and legality vary from state to state. In 2022, a total of $93.2 billion in legal sports bets were placed, according to the American Gambling Association – a record-setting year for sportsbooks.
